Standing Room Only: Packed Crowd Sees Tough Competition at Sumter County Pro Rodeo

BUSHNELL, Fla. – Oct. 9-10 – Fans filled the seats and then some at the Sumter County Pro Rodeo, where standing-room-only crowds watched PRCA cowboys and cowgirls compete under great Florida weather.

The competition was tough. Bull riding went without a qualified ride, and steer wrestling and saddle bronc riding each had only a few cowboys make it to the scoreboard. Steer wrestling had just two qualified runs, with Cael Nelson posting the winning time of 5.3 seconds for $1,090. Juan Alcazar Jr. took second at 14.4 seconds.

In saddle bronc riding, Keene Justesen took the win with an 85-point ride on Big Water Pro Rodeo’s Mohair Sam, worth $827. Colt Bass followed at 82.5 points, and Slim Griffin was third with 68.

The team roping was tight. Karter Kagel and Kyle Lawrence won with a 5.7-second run and $1,124 each. Justin Yost and Levi Pettigrew were a tenth of a second back at 5.8, and Spunk Sasser and Bryce Hart finished third at 6.3. Ty Chancey was named all-around cowboy with $446.

Tie-down roping went to Brad Hartt at 9.5 seconds for $1,175. Randall Carlisle took second at 10.0, Pat Carlton was third at 10.1, and Trae Adams III rounded out the payouts at 12.9.

Barrel racing was the closest contest of the weekend, with the top ten separated by just 0.31 seconds. Emilee Carlisle won in 17.08 seconds for $913, only nine-hundredths of a second ahead of Meghann Daniel at 17.17. Kali Holt (17.21), Kaylon Rodriguez (17.22), and Amie Tyre (17.24) completed the top five, followed by Hannah Oakley, Erin Wetzel, Kelley Carrington, Paige Willis, and Kathleen Menard.

With a sellout crowd, good weather, and tough competition, a good time was had by all.
